Choices, the One Thing We Can Control

Sunday, April 14th, 2024

Life is filled with choices. Everything from what we should eat to what we should wear to how we raise our children to the thoughts that we allow to dwell in our minds. And contrary to what our culture might try to tell us, all of our choices have consequences. In the Bible this is referred to as the principle of sowing and reaping.

Galatians 6:7:

Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.

2 Corinthians 9:6:

But this I say: He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.

Hosea 10:12:

12 Sow for yourselves righteousness; reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground, for it is time to seek the Lord, till He comes and rains righteousness on you.

The power of life and death are in our tongue (Proverbs 18:21). If we speak seeds of life, we will yield life, and if we speak curses, we are inviting the death-seeking powers of darkness. Our inability to agree with this doesn’t make it any less true. The world wants us to think that we can reap without sowing or that we will never have to reap all the negative things we sow. This is anti-Creation. Even the enemy knows this, that’s why he is constantly trying to get us to sow lies instead of truth, death instead of resurrection power.

We can choose to wonder where God is, or we can choose to believe the scripture that says He will never leave us (Isaiah 41:10). We can choose to be angry at God for situations in our life or we can choose to believe the scripture that says He works all things together for good (Romans 8:28). We can choose to believe we will never be healed or free or we can choose to align our mind and body with the One whose stripes already gave us these and more (1 Peter 2:24). We can choose to wallow in self-pity, or we can declare we are fearfully and wonderfully made for divine plans and purposes (Psalm 139:14; Jeremiah 29:11).

The Word of God is truth. It doesn’t matter how many people believe it, slander it, run from it, misinterpret it or try to take its power. Thankfully, God’s grace-timer continues ticking away not wanting any to perish, but that all should come to repentance (Peter 3:9). Jesus said that if we abide in His word, we will know the truth and the truth will make us free (John 8:31-32). The Word of God is living and active. It has guided people into truth, healing and wholeness for thousands of years and its power continues to multiply throughout the generations. In a Creation that is built on truth, anything false will not be able to withstand the test of time. Truth cannot be manipulated. Truth cannot remain masked, denied or abandoned. It is and was and always will be.

Final Thoughts…

Heal us, Lord. We repent for believing anything that doesn’t align with your Word. We repent for choosing to sow anything that won’t stand up to the fire of purification. Free us from the chains we thought were keeping us safe. Give us enough of a glimpse of Your freedom that we will abandon all we have and never look back. We are desperate for You. We are desperate for truth. We are desperate for life. Today is our line in the sand. We choose to step over it and never look back. Wherever You go, we choose You. Whatever You ask, we choose You. Whatever You want, we choose You. Expose all the dark corners that keep us from choosing You 100%. 99% of us is not enough. To our 1%’s, the Son has set you free and you are free indeed!
