The Coming Shift

The book of Esther has always been one of my favorite stories. With three daughters in my house they too have become quite fond of her. All the elements of suspense, bravery, good vs. evil, and the deliverance of God’s people are covered in 10 quick chapters. Each time I read it I uncover another nugget within its deep layers.

This time I was struck by Esther 6. To summarize, the king could not sleep on a particular night and asked his attendants to read some of the records of the chronicles. As they did, the king realized he did not honor Mordecai when he had saved the king’s life.

Interestingly enough Haman just happened to be entering the court, so the king invited him in. Haman was on an entirely different mission which we will get to in a moment. The king then proceeds to ask Haman what he would recommend as reward for someone the king wants to honor. Filled with pride and assuming the king was talking about him he listed out all the things he would want done for him.

The king, who liked Haman’s recommendations, then tells him to do this to Mordecai, the very person Haman was coming to suggest be hanged on the gallows he had made! Talk about one of those ball in your throat moments. This is “pride goeth before a fall” on full display! Not only was Haman not going to get all those cool things he thought he was going to get, but he was going to have to do them for the person he hated the most. What an unexpected shift.

The thing I keep hearing in my spirit is that this is the season we are entering. Our enemy thinks he is about to eliminate us once and for all. He thinks he knows just what to do next. He already has a sealed plan to eradicate God’s people and now he is going after Mordecai, who represents the Holy Spirit. The world seems to be in such a downward spiral and Satan is convinced nothing can stop him. But he too will meet that moment where God reminds Satan that He is greater and wiser. He will save each and every one of His people. Satan’s moment of humiliation is coming.

Final Thoughts…

It’s so easy to focus on all the crazy things we see happening in our world. Government leaders are doing repulsive things, Christians are being martyred by the thousands, churches are welcoming and tolerating that which profanes the house of God, schools are teaching kids things that will lead to the downfall of a nation, and the destruction of the family is breeding the destruction of a culture. While it surely grieves our Father, He has not lost power or stopped paying attention. His desire is still that all will be saved. He has a plan to bring a wave of repentance and salvation across this nation and parade Mordecai (the Holy Spirit) down every street!
