What We Need

Sometimes the most difficult part of a tragedy isn’t necessarily the tragedy itself, but how people respond to the tragedy. In his short lifetime, Charlie Kirk brought a spiritual sword to divide between truth and lies and light and dark. His death seems to be making the divide even larger. God is speaking much about the societal issues that are being exposed in the aftermath. That’s not where I am headed today though.

God keeps highlighting two scriptures that I think are vitally important as more and more narratives fill the atmosphere. And these aren’t just for the Charlie Kirk assassination, it’s for all that challenges that we know are coming. The first one is Matthew 7:15-16:

15 “Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. 16 By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles?

It’s no secret that a large segment of our world has become quite crafty at spreading lies. They candy-coat their words in wool, but underneath ravenous wolves are ready to rip into those naive enough to linger. Maybe it’s the words we think we want to hear or something that fits our experiences in life, so we drop our anchors and settle in. Did we take the time to ask God what He thinks? Does the Word of God validate what we are hearing or does it paint a different picture?

The next scripture that compliments the first one is 2 Chronicles 1:7, 10:

That night God appeared to Solomon and said to him, “Ask for whatever you want me to give you.”… 10 Give me wisdom and knowledge, that I may lead this people, for who is able to govern this great people of yours?”

My number one prayer these last two weeks has been, God please don’t let me run ahead of You or lag behind. I know He is putting so much on my heart and mind, and He is preparing me for something, but more than anything, I don’t want to move or speak unless He tells me to. Truth spoken at the wrong time will lead to hurt. The wrong words spoken at the right time will lead to hurt. Truth and God’s timing must go hand in hand. Otherwise, we will leave a path of destruction in our wake.

Final Thoughts…

The enemy is working so hard right now to prevent the incredible things God is doing. He will try any and every path to bring us to a place of anger, bitterness, pride, unforgiveness or any other thorns or thistles that distract us from our heavenly assignment. It is vitally important that we hear God’s voice above all the others. The other phrase that keeps coming to me lately is, “I don’t want to be emotionally driven; I want to be passionately driven.” It’s easy to let our feelings take over in a time like this. The enemy loves to have us acting from a place of sadness, anger or hurt. But God is the one that gives us passions. He stirs things deep inside of us, shows us how to prepare to use them, and then gives us the green light when it’s time to let them shine.
