He Goes Before Us

Thursday, May 29th, 2025

Sometimes we hear the phrase “God goes before us”. Or people sometimes pray that God would “prepare the way for us”. It’s hard for us to imagine how God can go in to the future and get things ready for us, but because He is outside of space and time it’s an easy trip for Him. It’s one of those things that we just have to have faith in and know that this is how God works. If we saw Him going before us, it wouldn’t take faith to believe that He could.

Today, I want to look at a real Biblical example of what this means. In Joshua 2:8-11 it says this:

Now before they lay down, she came up to them on the roof, and said to the men: “I know that the Lord has given you the land, that the terror of you has fallen on us, and that all the inhabitants of the land are fainthearted because of you. 10 For we have heard how the Lord dried up the water of the Red Sea for you when you came out of Egypt, and what you did to the two kings of the Amorites who were on the other side of the Jordan, Sihon and Og, whom you utterly destroyed. 11 And as soon as we heard these things, our hearts melted; neither did there remain any more courage in anyone because of you, for the Lord your God, He is God in heaven above and on earth beneath.

The Israelites didn’t even have to enter Jericho for the perfect reputation of their God to infiltrate the hearts and minds of their enemies. The Israelites themselves often forgot how powerful their God was. Even after all the miracles they still couldn’t believe that nothing was impossible to Him. Their enemies, on the other hand, only heard of a few stories of what their God did (without even experiencing His grandeur) and they were trembling in fear.

The truth is, it’s no different with the spiritual enemies we face today. Every demon that exists knows they are powerless against God. They know they are already defeated. They tremble and flee at the very sound of His name. That’s why they come directly after us. We are the weak link in the chain. We are the ones that can be distracted, give in to our emotions and forget the promises of our God. We know He has defeated every enemy we will ever face, but if we give the devil authority to work, then we temporarily forfeit our victory.

Final Thoughts…

Lord, right now we come before You and repent for the times that we doubted Your goodness, Your power and Your wisdom. We repent for believing the lies of the enemy over Your truths. Holy Spirit, please light up our path and help us not to get distracted or disillusioned by anything that is not Your best for us. We thank You that You go before us and that there is nothing that comes our way that hasn’t gone through Your hands. You are God of everything, in heaven and earth.
