We are continuing to learn about how breaking a horse in the natural has many similarities to surrendering our human will in the spiritual. During the PBS Nature Show, Equus The Story of the Horse, Jimmy Anderson shared that it’s not just about what he is doing to the horse, he also spends a lot of time looking at the horse’s body language. Is the horse telling him it’s alright to keep going or is he saying he is worried about continuing on with the breaking process?
This got me thinking, what is our body language telling God? Are our shoulders slumped under a weight of heavy burdens? Are our jaws clenched in anger, bitterness or pride? Are our hands and our eyes painted various shades of doubt and anxiety? Are our feet frozen in fear-of-failure ice? Are we paralyzed on our mats convinced that we just can’t go on? Are we puppets to our feelings and emotions? I can write all of these because I have experienced each one firsthand.
What would our body language look like if we were telling God we wanted to continue on with His plans? Our garment of praise would replace the sackcloth of heaviness. A smile would never leave our loving, forgiving and self-less face. Our war-trained hands and God-seeking eyes would never miss their target. Our feet would be planted on the rock, never wavering, with every enemy underneath. Our whole being would press on toward the goal to which God ordained for us from before we were even born. Our feelings and emotions would generate from a place of knowing who God is and who we are in Him. And all of this would be our state no matter our environment, external or internal circumstances or fiery darts from the enemy.
Final Thoughts…
Our body language isn’t solely external. It’s an external expression of an internal reality. Sanctifying our body language isn’t about training ourselves to act differently. It’s about healing the wound, letting God fill the emptiness, breaking soul ties, believing truth instead of lies and fully submitting our whole triune being (spirit, soul and body) to our Heavenly Father. Lord, take us all through a healing process so that our body language communicates to You that we love You, we trust You and we are ready to go wherever You want us to.
