Even Satan is Subject

Lately, one of the most prevalent workings of the Holy Spirit in my life has been His ability to make the Word come alive every time I open it up. It can be one word or a string of words that I have surely read before, but all of a sudden there is a holy fire burning above them. It makes me ponder them and dig deeper until I find the treasure for which Holy Spirit has sent me seeking. That’s the beauty of this book. No other book has saved so many and no other book has made as many martyrs. What a powerful weapon we have. I pray we never stop holding it so dear all the days of our lives!

We are heading back to Job again today. There are two specific, very similar verses I want to look at and then share what God showed me. We are in Job 1:6 and 2:1:

Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan also came among them.

1Again there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan came also among them to present himself before the Lord.

I spent a few days pondering these verses and asking God why they were so significant. Why was it recorded that Satan came to these gatherings? He showed me two things. The first is that when we as the sons and daughters of God come together as a body, Satan can often be found among us trying to disrupt, distract and deduct from what God is desiring for us to do. Sometimes we forget, or we live like we forget, that there is a very real enemy out there that is daily trying to steal, kill, and destroy. He doesn’t want us to live like Jesus and he will expound as much energy as necessary to bind us by whichever tactic keeps us living like anything else.

The second thing God showed me is from the last six words of the second verse above: “to present himself before the Lord.” It’s another one of those things that we all know, but live like we forget. You see, Satan is subject unto the Lord. Satan can only act when given authority. In the case of Job, God gave him permission and authority to test Job. Often times, we are the ones giving him permission because of sins or lies that we fall victim to. How amazing would it be if we all lived out of a healthy understanding of the power and authority that dwells within us? What if every thought we had and every word we spoke contained a full measure of God’s faith, hope, and love? What if every cell in our body was able to fully rest in who God is and who we are in Him?

Final Thoughts…

Satan’s working in our lives is only a result of the authority given him to do so. If God gave him permission, we can be assured that God wants to teach us and grow us in the process and that He will make something beautiful out of it. If we are the ones that opened the door, God will honor our seeking to find which door it is and the best way to close it. We don’t have to live this life subject to the winds, storms, and shaking. We have the opportunity and the authority to dwell in their midst with complete faith and trust in our Maker. This is the victorious life I desire to live. How about you?
